Their mission is to empower Nicaraguan women living in impoverished and isolated communities with the education and social skills they need to enter the labor market.
Their vision is to provide women with an income opportunity linked to a compulsory school and social education program at a sustainable paper recycling workshop, CHURECA CHIC. Enabling women to break, for good, the systematic cycle of poverty affecting their families.
As a charity they aim to be self -funding by 2016 through the CHURECA CHIC sales.
In 2013 over 20 families living in the capital’s poorest neighborhoods, received a stable income because their mother’s were given the chance to learn. In turn their children also stopped working and went to school.

We think the accolades are well deserved, but don’t just take our word for it – come see for yourself!
Barefoot luxury on a private tropical beach, stunning ocean-view bungalows, all within a 4,000-acre jungle define the Morgan’s Rock experience. The ecolodge is a 15-bungalow hideaway on a mile-long picturesque sandy beach, frequented year-round by nesting sea turtles. Nearly half of the vast property is a government-designated reserve. The rest is low-impact agricultural land (a farm called El Aguacate) and sustainable tropical forestland (owned and managed by Desarrollo Ecoforestal, S.A.).
Opened in 2004 by owners, the Poncon family, Morgan’s Rock is two hours by car from Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, on the Southern Pacific Coast of this ready to be discovered Central American country. The forested land and reserve hosts a variety of exotic animals like spider, howler and capuchin monkeys, deer, reptiles, and many native and migrant birds.
Morgan’s Rock is a one of a kind vacation destination. We are a luxury accommodation provider, but more than that we provide memories that last a lifetime. Many of our guests are return visitors. Our mission is to provide guests with ultimate relaxation, peace of mind, and an authentic local experience. Equally important to us is the preservation of Nicaragua’s vital ecosystems and wildlife, as well as cultural preservation and community involvement. Our contributions to conservation and community are highly visible. Guests contribute to our social and environmental mission simply by staying with us, allowing our continued support of community education and environmental conservation.
The sustainably constructed bungalows are nestled into the jungle, not far from the hacienda’s private beach. They are exquisite when lit up at night. Guests can relax on the beach and participate in numerous activities and off-site excursions. Lounge in a hammock under the shade of the palapa (thatched beach hut), rejuvenate with an early morning yoga session, hike to some of the best outlooks in the area, admire the fiery sunset over the Pacific with a glass of wine, or explore the vast property and its environs.

ECO SCHOOL PROJECT
Since we started our operation, we had flirted with the idea of starting a community project of our own but were hesitant of our ability to carry it out effectively by ourselves.
In 2009, the opportunity to partner with an NGO and Careli Tours to work in education presented itself and, yes, we took it! This is how Hotel Plaza Colón started the first multi-sectoral pilot of environmental education in a public school in Nicaragua.
The project implemented in Escuela Pedro Joaquin Chamorro located in the community of El Diamante by the lake, lasted three years (2009-2011) and consisted of:
- Providing an environmental educator for all grades in the school.
- Raising awareness about the importance of the environment for everyone and its potential as a source of employments in tourism.
- Implementing recycling & contacting the School with local companies that buy recyclables, thus providing funds to different school projects.
With the support of our clients and partners, we were able to improve the facilities in the school by building new bathrooms and also provided supplies which many of the children could not afford.
Currently we are in search of the new ECO SCHOOL in Granada, but in the meantime we keep gathering backpacks donated by our guests and take them periodically to Juan Diego School located in the Tepeyac community.
