The LUTETIA hotel was born on a cold December night in 1910. It is located the Left Bank of Paris. The hotel rose out of the ashes of “Fin de Siecle” Belle Epoque. This was before World War I changed the world and society with it. When ladies arrived at the hotel opening that December night, they were decked in their elegant finery. The men arrived in Tuxedos with their hair slicked back. The jazz music played and the champagne flowed. They danced all night to celebrate. A 100 years later the hotel has re-opened again, refreshed and elegant. You can almost hear the faint notes of the piano from the Bar Josephine.
A Glittering Star of the Left Bank
The LUTETIA hotel renovation brings back a unique landmark. The original hotel opened with the finest crystal, table settings and decorations inspired by ART NOUVEAU and ART DECO design. Current designers have embraced the existing property. Unique discoveries came to light such as the stain glass ceiling. A hand-painted fresco ceiling in the Bar Josephine was restored by one of the world’s experts in art restoration. Be sure to look up, it’s a masterpiece.
Head architect ALAIN-CHARLES PERROT and his firm took on the challenge and their extraordinary work shows in every detail. You can have a tea in the breakfast room with exquisite china or a luxury lunch in their dining room beneath the skylight with the Paris skies above. I was not able to see the rooms as many were still under construction but the hotel will continue expanding both its regular luxury double rooms and suites in 2020 as the hotel continues to complete its new construction. You can enjoy a glass of Tattinger champagne created just for the hotel in the Bar Josephine, this is not to be missed.
